Cosmetic skin lesion removal using Cryotherapy
The NHS no longer have the resources to offer the services of removing benign lesions such as warts, verrucae, benign moles, skin tags, milia, solar lentigines (sun spots), seborrheic keratosis, cherry angioma and most types of pigmented lesions. At HG Revive, we offer cryotherapy treatments to remove most unwanted skin lesions. At your free consultation, we will assess your skin and select the best method for your skin lesion.
What is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a safe and highly effective method of removing benign lesions such as skin tags, warts, milia, benign moles, solar lentigines (sun spots) and seborrheic keratosis. Using highly pressured liquid nitrous oxide to quickly destroy the lesion with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. The treatment is quick and effective, requiring little aftercare. This makes it a very popular treatment to remove unwanted lesions. After the treatment, your warts, skin tags or other lesions will scab over and fall off within one to two weeks.
Some larger or deeper lesions may require more than 1 treatment, this will be discussed at the inital consultation.
Some lesions will need to be checked by a GP or dermatologist prior to any treatment. It is essential that lesions to be removed are benign. We are happy to advise on this course of action.
What to expect at your appointment
A full initial consultation, including medical history, will take place and an assessment of the lesion to assess whether cryotherapy is the treatment suitable.
The appointment time will be 20-30 minutes, however, the removal of the lesion takes less than 1 minute per lesion. The procedure is virtually risk free with minimal discomfort and virtually no risk of infection. The lesion is expected to naturally crust over and naturally fall off 4-6 weeks after the treatment, although it may take longer with some skin types. Most healing is straightforward and occurs without problems. You will be welcome to relax in the waiting area post procedure, however, you should feel fine to leave straight away and resume normal activities. A follow up appointment will be made before you leave and aftercare advice provided.
Benefits of Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is minimally invasive and rarely leaves scarring or disfigurement. Lesions essentially freeze off without surgical excision, preserving healthy surrounding tissues.
The procedure is quick, easy to perform, and inexpensive. No sutures or extensive wound care are required.
We can treat multiple small lesions across a broad skin surface area in a single session. This makes it very time-efficient.
There is little to no pain or need for anesthesia in most cases.
It carries minimal risks and side effects, so it is quite safe.
If a lesion recurs, repeat cryosurgery is easily performed with excellent results.
FAQs

The treatment takes less than a minute per lesion. After a thorough consultation, the medical grade device will emit a very fine, targeted jet of nitrous oxide - directly to the affected skin lesion.
The tissue is destroyed by freezing the inter-cellular fluid with the formation of ice crystals, which leads to disruption of the cell membrane. There may be some slight swelling, redness, or even a blister or scab in the surrounding tissue. This can last from a few hours to a few days. The lesion will then come away over the next week or two. One treatment is usually all that is required, however, larger or deeper lesions may require further treatments.

You will feel a tingling, cold sensation during the treatment. It is uncomfortable but not painful and it is over very quickly.
-
Your appointment will last for 20 minutes for a consultation, preparation and aftercare advice. Each lesion is treated in less than a minute.
-
For most lesions cryotherapy is a permanent removal.

All moles must be assessed by a dermatologist and a medical note would be needed for us to see, showing evidence that the moles have been assessed and are shown to be benign.
At Spa Bottom Farm, where we are based, my experienced colleagues have the dermoscopy qualifications and facilities to review moles, partnering with MAP MY MOLE. This service enables photos and measurements to be submitted to a remote Consultant Dermatologist for a comprehensive review usually within 48 hours. If the results show a benign lesion, then HG Revive can use cryotherapy to quickly and easily remove the benign mole.

Scarring is extremely rare and does not normally happen. The surrounding skin colour may temporarily darken or lighten of the skin, but this usually only lasts for a few months. This may be more obvious in darker skin types.
-
Cryotherapy requires no anaesthetic and has less scarring than other techniques of skin removal, with minimal aftercare. If cryotherapy is not suitable for you, you can be rest assured that, as medical practitioners, we will advise you on this in your initial consultation.
